DESCRIPTION :

DOMESTIC AIR CONDITIONING SIMULATOR:-

OBJECTIVE:- 

To study the three type of vapour compression air conditioning cycle. 

  1. Fixed split type
  2. Portable split type
  3. Uni block or window type

AIM:- 

  • To calculate coefficient of Performance (C.O.P) by the use of P-H Diagram. 

INTRODUCTION:- 

Air conditioning is the simultaneous control of the temperature, motion and purity of the atmosphere in a confined space. Air conditioning applies in the heating season as well as in the cooling season. The air conditioning has wide applications in submarine ships, aircrafts and rockets. Air conditioning is associated with the human comfort and controlling the humidity ratio.

  1. 1.  FIXED SPLITTYPE:- 

A split system typically supplies chilled air to a single or a few rooms of a building. Splitsystems typically produce 9,000 to 36,000 Btu (9,500–38,000 kJ) per hour of cooling.

Advantages of the ductless system include smaller size and flexibility for zoning or heating and cooling individual rooms. The inside wall space required is significantly reduced. Also, the compressor and heat exchanger can be located farther away from the inside space, rather than merely on the other side of the same unit as in a PTAC or window air conditioner. Flexible exterior hoses lead from the outside unit to the interior one(s); these are often enclosed with metal to look like common drainpipes from the roof. In addition, ductless systems offer higher efficiency, reaching above 30 SEER.

The primary disadvantage of ductless air conditioners is their cost. Such systems cost about US$1,500 to US$2,000 per ton (12,000 BTU per hour) of cooling capacity. This is about 30% more than central systems (not including ductwork) and may cost more than twice as much as window units of similar capacity.                                          

  1. 2.  PORTABLE SPLIT TYPE:- 

A portable system has an indoor unit on wheels connected to an outdoor unit via flexible pipes, similar to a permanently fixed installed unit. 

  1. 3.  UNIBLOCK OR WINDOW TYPE:- 

Window unit air conditioners are installed in an open window. The interior air is cooled as a fan blows it over the evaporator. On the exterior the heat drawn from the interior is dissipated into the environment as a second fan blows outside air over the condenser. A large house or building may have several such units, allowing each room to be cooled separately.

 MAIN PART OF USE IN AIRCONDITIONER:- 

COMPRESSOR:

The main function of compressor is to raise the pressure and temperature of the refrigerant by the compression of the refrigerant vapor and then pump it into the condenser. 

CONDENSER: 

Condense the vapor refrigerant into the liquid by condenser fan passes it into the receiver tank for recirculation. 

CAPILLARY TUBE: 

It expends the liquid refrigerant at high pressure to the liquid refrigerant at low pressure so that a measured quantity of the liquid refrigerant is passed into the evaporator.   

EVAPORATOR: 

Evaporator the liquid refrigerant by absorbing the heat into vapor refrigerant and sends back in to the compressor. 

VAPOUR COMPRESSOR:  

The refrigerant start at some initial state or condition passes through a series of processes in a definite sequence and return to the initial condition. This series of processes is called cycle. 

VAPOUR COMPRESSION CYCLE: 

The standard vapor compressor cycle (SVCC) consists of the following processes:

1                    Reversible adiabatic compression from the saturation vapor to a super heated condition.

2                    Reversible heat rejection at constant pressure (sub cooling liquid and condensation of the refrigeration)

3                    Irreversible is enthalpy expansion from saturated  liquid to a low-pressure sub cool liquid.

4                    Reversible heat addition at constant pressure.

 

DESCRIPTION:-

The air conditioning test rig unit is required to conduct experiments and demonstrate the process cooling of atmospheric air. The unit consists of a compressor. Both evaporator and the air cooled condenser are mounted on board with separate fans. Air is sucked from the room and is supplied to the room after cooling. The system is provided with voltmeter and ammeter, a digital temperature indicator. The unit will be fitted with all instruments facilities so that temperature and pressure can be measured at different points in the air conditioning system.
